HOW A DAY GETS ITS RATING

F-scale · Funnels (inflow)

Bitcoin being pulled into the ETFs. Bigger F, bigger funnel.

G-scale · Geysers (outflow)

Bitcoin being thrown out of the ETFs. Bigger G, bigger geyser.

How the scale is set. Each trading day's net flow is the change in total BTC held across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs, from issuer-reported holdings. The rating is the day's rank against the trailing 12 months of daily flows: 0 is below the median, 1 is above it, 2 is top 30%, 3 is top 15%, 4 is top 5%, and 5 is a top-1% day — the ones that make the record books. Thresholds re-compute nightly, so an F4 in a quiet year and an F4 in a wild year are both "a big day for that year". The BTC ranges shown are illustrative for the current window.

About the data

WHERE THE NUMBERS COME FROM

Issuer-reported, once per trading day

Every issuer publishes its fund's Bitcoin holdings after the US close. Bitcoin Tornado reads those pages overnight, takes the day-over-day change in BTC held across all funds, and renders the card before the next open. No estimates, no intraday guessing — if an issuer hasn't posted yet, the card waits.
  • Net BTC is the headline; USD uses that day's closing price.
  • T+1: holdings changes mostly reflect the previous session's creations and redemptions. Everyone's flow numbers carry this lag; cards are labelled by holdings date.
  • Revisions: issuers occasionally restate a figure. A day's rating can change the following morning if that happens, and the log says so.
